*aliens*

well, no alien abductions. not that i truly and really believe that stuff. but. you know. i'm back in that "reading something and freaking out" stage. like when i read some works by my very own professor, which has experiential and phenomenological accounts of old-hag encounters. i wore my pjs inside out to ward off the old hag.

***

it turns out, when aliens abduct you, speculates this one author who works at temple university (trying to not put in names to decrease the number of hits to this website through googling - starting to not like the public-ness of this diary), well, when they abduct you they'll often return you with your pjs inside out. so, you see, i think i'm screwed either way!

;)

actually, the nervousness isn't so bad, at all. i don't really buy it, but living alone with a cat who knocks things off the shelf at night who ghosts around the house, my active imagination flares. i just can't handle things when people give first-hand accounts of experiences, and they corroborate with other experiences that other people had. and they are not what the media usually talks about.

so neurons are probably firing or misfiring off in your brain, or hormones are tangoing through your endocrine system. but since i study folklore, since i study people's expression of culture in the everyday, i have to listen to their accounts. regardless of what is actually happening, i believe them that they believe that something is happening to them. which is, i would posit, part of my professional duty. and i do believe them. at which point it starts freaking me out, regardless of the actually physiological or psychological causes behind the experience.

ok, that has to have been my longest entry, ever.

long story not so short: i couldn't sleep until 3, and i am now tired and grumpy. not to mention the fact that a) i have my lecture tomorrow and b) i didn't do work friday or saturday (or anything fun for that matter) so i'm nervous.

later gaters.
