london bridge is falling down....

back in germany back in germany back in germany tired tired tired.

we had a really nice time in the UK. right now, a list of highlights. super tired am i.

1) stayed at a cheap cheap cheap (in pounds but if you transfer it to dollar prices ridiculously expensive) hotel the first night, wed-thursday. (got in at around 1 am local time, 2 am germany time)

2) took the WAGN (western anglia great northern) train up from Kings-Cross/St. Pancras to Cambridge. (at 0-early-hundred)

3) walked to the B&B.

4) walked and had lunch; then my sweetie took a cab to his appointment

5) i tried to get in to the anthro museum, but public hours were from 2-4 and i was feeling like crap (sore throat etc.). so no museum. had lots of echinaecea this whole trip....

6) instead, a good friend of mine who lives in the UK called me at a pay phone and we talked and talked and talked. whcih was great.

7) napped at the hotel.

8) we were taken out to dinner by the people my sweetie had met - good fish restaurant, loch fyne (i think) restaurant... i had salmon sashimi as a starter and then seared tuna. i love seared tuna. mmmmmm, seared tuna.

9) sighseeing the next day (walking tour) with my sweetie through many of the colleges at cambridge: king's (including king's college chapel), queens', trinity, etc. which was nice. then he took a cab to give his talk, and i kept on wandering. climbed up the tower of st. mary's church, 123 steps up, little twisty staircase, and i discovered: damn, i'm starting to get afraid of heights....

10) took a train back to london, found our hotel in bloomsbury, had dinner at an indian restaurant nearby, watched a buffy dvd we brought, and then slept...

11) full day in london on saturday: british museum and the rosetta stone, st. paul's (closed when we were there), the millenium bridge, globe theater, the monument (great fire 1666 memorial), the tower of london and the tower bridge, picadilly circus, chinatown (for dinner: at at a japanese restaurant, mmmmm), and a musical (bombay dreams) at the apollo victoria theater. took oodles of pictures. had a yeoman warder tour at the tower and laughed and laughed.

12) got up at 4 am. taxi supposed to arrive at 5 am for a 7:15 flight. no cab at 5:15. walked to euston street. hailed a cab. were told a price much higher than they had told us at the hotel (and we only had so much), but needed to get to the airport. so agreed that the cabbie would let me get some money at an atm. got in. realized 2 minutes later that DAGNAMMIT we had left our suitcase standing on the sidewalk. he turned around, it was still there, but i was in tears by then... early flight to frankfurt, and then caught an earlier train to gttingen. snow in germany, and i slept on the train. and a nap this afternoon at home.

now, back to the real world for a few days... *yawn* the above is an update, not super poetic, more a list of notes.... but yes, we had a good time!
